Modern language summary…
William Seymour, the preacher at the center of the Azusa Street revival, described how he came to Los Angeles in the first place: a woman there felt strongly led to write and ask him to come from Houston, and he went, trusting the prompting -- with the money for the journey arriving as he did. The prayer meetings that followed, in a small house on Bonnie Brae Street, grew into one of the most documented spiritual events in American history.

"It was the divine call that brought me from Houston, Texas, to Los Angeles. The Lord put it in the heart of one of the saints in Los Angeles to write to me that she felt the Lord would have me come over here and do a work, and I came, for I felt it was the leading of the Lord. The Lord sent the means, and I came... The beginning of the Pentecost started in a cottage prayer meeting at 214 Bonnie Brae." — W. J. Seymour, in his own words.
