Not As Alone As I Thought

My therapist has been asking me for months to write down anything that felt bigger than me, so I'm doing that now with this one from Sunday. I was walking my dog through Forest Park before the rain came in when I became aware of something present with me on the trail, not another person, not the dog, but something attentive and completely aware of me, watching without judgment. I stopped and just stood there letting it surround me. I don't have another word for what met me on that trail except God, even though I haven't used that word seriously in years. I'm still turning it over, trying not to explain it away.
