The Last Shift

My niece showed me this site and said I should put the plant story on here since I tell it to anybody who'll sit still long enough. Nineteen years on the assembly line before they shut the place down for good. Last shift ever ended and I sat in my truck in the empty lot, not ready yet to drive home to a house that's been empty since my wife left two years back. Something came over that lot, not happiness, I want to be clear about that part, but a peace that didn't need anything fixed first in order for me to feel alright. Drove home a different man than the one who drove in that morning.
